As I sit here watching the Wings game with my husband Ryan, I am filled with mixed emotions. Part of me is thrilled that I’m not scrambling to prepare for market in the morning and part of me is sad that I will be missing my weekly ritual of grabbing a coffee, schmoozing with fellow vendors and catching up with customers’ happenings. We truly love being a part of our market customers’ lives. We’ve watched families grow all the while packing up goat milk soaps for the new baby. We’ve watched kids go off to college with a care package full of Squeaky Cleans. We’ve been in Christmas stockings and bridal showers and housewarmings. It truly warms our heart thinking of all the happy occasions that we had a tiny part of.

So while I wake up a little later and sip leisurely on a cup of coffee, I’ll be missing all of you. But only for a moment.

We’ll be back in two weeks! Yes, you read that correctly. We’ll be back November 29 for the start of Holly Days. You can find us back at the pavilion from 10 am until 3 pm with our regular soaps as well as some limited edition gift items.  I know Farmington’s DDA is currently updating their website so check there for any information (we have a link to your right) regarding dates. We plan to be there November 29, December 6, and December 13. We are not positive that we will be able to participate on December 20, but will update as soon as we are sure. This is an excellent chance to shop all the artisans and grab some great holiday decorations. Come and visit, the heaters will be on!

Until then, enjoy a few lazy Saturdays.

We’re proud to announce that we have added our catalog to the blog. You can know find information on each soap we offer when you click on “Our Soaps”. You will also find a full listing of ingredients on each soap. This is especially helpful if you’re concerned about allergies. We hope you find it useful!

Regardless of which way you lean, go out today and make your voice heard. I was proud to stand in line for an hour with my fellow residents to do my civic duty. Cast your vote and be part of an extraordinary part of history.

I’m working on getting our Etsy site up and running as soon as possible. We know it’s hard to come trudging out in all kinds of weather to the market so we want to offer everyone a convenient way to order your soap without even leaving the house.

Please add us to your bookmarks: Relic Soap Company at Etsy.

I’m still adding copy, the photography isn’t done, and I’m sure I’m missing things but I wanted to get the word out now so you can drop by on your free time to see how it’s going. Feel free to “convo” us at Etsy or email us at info@relicsoap.com if you have a question or comment.

Happy shopping!

This Saturday is November 8th, the last day of our regular farmers market season. Thank you to all the folks at Farmington’s DDA for all the hard work you’ve all done making 2008 a great season! We were once again proud to be a part of the fun and look forward to next season and all the excitment leading up to it. (We have some great stuff in the works…)

We will be open from 9 am until 2 pm this Saturday and will have a special promotion to thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to visit our wonderful market. What is it? Well, you’ll just have to come and see! (I’m still figuring it out, you see…)

Don’t despair if you can’t make it this Saturday. We will be back at the pavilion on November 29 to kickstart Farmington’s holiday market. Look here and in the Observer for more information. I’ll share more as soon as I have news.

We hope to see you Saturday!

I just got word that the Farmington Farmers Market is definitely extended through November 8 due to customer demand. How awesome is that?! More people are getting the fact that buying local is fun and worth it. Good job, market customers! We hope to see you in the next three weeks. Don’t forget to bundle up!

We found out last week at the Farmington Farmers Market that there are enough vendors interested in continuing the market past our original end date of this Sunday. We will back at the market on Saturday, November 1st from 9 am until 2 pm. If the response is positive and vendors are still interested we may continue past that point. I’ll update the blog on what is decided.

What great news for anyone like me who waits til the last minute to stock up! (You’re not a procrastinator, you’re just in denial that winter is coming!)

We will have more soaps in stock as we’re stirring the pots all this week in order to have soap ready for the upcoming weeks as well as our holiday market starting November 29. This is unofficial as of yet, but I heard it from a reliable source.  Starting after Thanksgiving, we will offer our ever-popular sample packs. We put a new spin on them but you’ll have to come see them to check it out. We know you’ll like them! They make excellent stocking stuffers, thank you gifts or just a little something to perk up your otherwise boring sink.

If you haven’t checked us out recently, we have some new additions to the soap menu:

Black Velvet - Just in time for Halloween. Black licorice blended with a hint of lavender for the gothic at heart.

Frankincense & Myrrh - Worth a king’s ransom. (Sorry, couldn’t resist!) Rich and exotic yet lightly scented so as to not overwhelm the senses. We foresee men and women loving this scent.

Lemongrass Sage - Super lemony, super fresh. This one is flying off the racks!

Pumpkin Spice - It’s back! and aromatic as ever! Made with fresh pumpkin (loaded with beta carotene) and baking spice essential oils. You’ll have to resist nibbling.

Remember, we will be open all year long. We’re finishing up setting up an Etsy store for our online customers. You’re also welcome to phone or email orders at any time.

It probably comes as no surprise to anyone checking the weather report that we are cancelling our market appearance today. We are known for not letting rain scare us away from our spot at the Farmington market but the giant wall of water we saw on the radar this morning was enough to make us stay home. We can’t wait to be back next week! Stay dry until then.

Today we enjoyed letting the breeze in through the windows. It wasn’t terribly chilly but you could definitely detect the nip of autumn coming in through the kitchen window this morning while I packed the kids’ lunches. This is my favorite time of year! The leaves are starting to change colors and our yard is already speckled with orange and red maple leaves from our numerous trees. We’re going to be very busy this fall…

With the change of seasons comes our new seasonal soaps. Some are tried and trues such as Pumpkin Spice and Winter Solstice along with some new ones such as Hunter’s Moon. Winter Solstice made its debut last weekend and I hope to have Pumpkin Spice in the pot later this week. We also showcased a few new additions to our line up last weekend:

Coconut Pear - a delicious combination of sweet pear and tropical coconut. It’s not a suntan lotion fragrance, it’s much more realistic. Very fragrant!

Raspberry Creme - Yummah!! Yes, I’m in love with this scent. Fresh sweet raspberries folded into sweet cream for an irresistible scent.

We have more popping up as the weeks go by - stop by the market booth on Saturdays to see what’s in store!

October 4th - Special Market Event: We will be demonstrating how we manufacture our soap sometime in the early afternoon on October 4th - the kick off to our Harvest Month at the market. Be sure to come by and see what goes into making our soap. We apologize for the nonspecific time, we’re working around our kids’ soccer schedules. If you miss the actual demo, we will still have great info and visuals for you to check out.

Happy Raking!

There are still boxes everywhere but we’re thrilled to be settling into our new home in downtown Farmington. We were thrilled to return to the farmers market last week and find out that many of you are our neighbors. We are so excited about our new surroundings and each day we find out something new and wonderful about the area we moved to.

Many have asked if we’re back to making soap yet. Not quite! All boxes have been located but it will be sometime before we’re able to set up the workshop. We need to install plumbing and gas service for my stove and work sink. One of the great things about our new digs is the fact that we won’t need to share kitchen space with the soap anymore. We’re in the process of installing new curing shelves and making our space as efficient as possible. Hopefully we’ll be back to making soap soon and getting some new creations out to market. I have already ordered some fantastic oils for new holiday soaps. (Yes… it’s time to start thinking about Christmas! Yikes!)

Some have asked about our progress on getting online ordering up and running. I’m still working toward getting an Etsy site up by this fall. All that’s left to do is the photography. If I find that I’m taking too long getting pictures taken I may launch with photos to follow. It is certainly a priority for those customers of ours that can no longer make it to the market regularly. We’re always happy to ship our soaps not only across town but internationally. Feel free to have us ship a gift to a loved one.

Back to unpacking! We look forward to talking to you all soon!
